Frequently Asked Questions

A single Bottle To Flame candle is designed to burn for approximately 60 hours, but achieving that full lifespan depends entirely on how you care for it. These answers provide the specific knowledge needed for a flawless experience from the first match to the last melt.

Candle Safety: The Non-Negotiable Basics

Always burn your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, curtains, and flammable materials. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Never burn a candle for more than four hours at a time — this prevents the container from overheating and allows the wax to reset.

Mastering the First Burn

The first burn is critical. Allow the candle to burn until the wax melts completely across the surface, reaching the edges of the glass. This usually takes two to four hours. A full melt pool on the first burn prevents "tunneling," where wax hardens around a central column and shortens your candle's life.

Wick Trimming

Before each relight, trim your wick to about 1/4 inch. A long wick creates a larger, sootier flame that can overheat the container. This simple step promotes a cleaner burn, maximizes fragrance throw, and extends the life of your candle.

Candle Troubleshooting

Tunneling (wax doesn't melt to the edges): Wrap the candle in foil to reflect heat outward until the tunneled wax melts level, then burn normally.

Small or weak flame: Pour off a small amount of excess liquid wax before it hardens. Ensure the wick is the proper length before lighting.

Sooting (black smoke or residue): Trim the wick to 1/4 inch. Move the candle away from vents, doors, or fans.

Weak fragrance throw: Burn in a smaller, enclosed space. Take breaks from the scent to reset your nose.

Common Questions

How long should I burn my candle the first time? Until the entire top layer of wax is liquid from edge to edge — typically two to four hours.

Why is soy wax better? Soy wax burns cleaner and slower than paraffin, producing less soot. It's a renewable resource and holds fragrance oils beautifully.

How do I reuse the jar? Place the finished candle in the freezer for 30 minutes. The remaining wax will contract and pop out easily. Clean the glass with warm soapy water.
